Community Engagement

The community engagement program will bring together community choirs and orchestras from around Australia with local Bendigo groups for an intensive rehearsal period and mainstage performance. In 2020 Bendigo Chamber Choir will be joined by Camberwell Choral from Melbourne and Adelaide Harmony Choir from Adelaide. It will also see world class international artists work with local community groups in workshops, side by side projects as well as public and private masterclasses.

Camberwell Choral

Typically, the Chorale is 70-90 strong, comprising soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices.   Four or five concerts are performed each year, most commonly in May, July, October, November and December. Occasionally, concerts are performed in country centres. Major concerts are performed with the Camerata Orchestra, which was formed in 1975 by the Chorale’s current Conductor, Douglas Heywood. Our more informal annual Christmas Concert is aimed at families, being a Nine Lesson Carol Service with a beautiful mix of Traditional Carols and Christmas Songs.

The repertoire comprises major choral works, and these are usually performed with the Camerata Orchestra. These works have included masses, oratorios, and passion music by such composers as J S Bach, Beethoven, Bloch, Bruckner, Berlioz, Britten, Faure, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Verdi and Vaughan Williams. A variety of smaller sacred and secular works has also been performed, ranging from Palestrina to The Beatles.  The Chorale has performed in Festivals and other community events.
